Executive Director on Newsnight

European Institute Executive Director, Dr Uta Staiger, appeared on Newsnight on Wednesday 29th March to comment on the history of Britain and Europe in the context of the triggering of Article 50.

Dr Staiger appeared on the special Article 50 episode of BBC's Newsnight  as an expert on the history of Britain and Europe, having taught the history of European integration at UCL for many years.

Asked to comment on Britain's attitude towards Europe, Dr Staiger noted that the UK has a tendency to think of Europe as a unified entity on the other side of the channel, a frame of mind that harks back to nineteenth century notions of 'splendid isolation'.
