Claudia Sternberg

Join us to hear from Daniel Bradley about the EU’s policy and delivery in the climate space, and about the political forces that shape its positions, not least in the light of the upcoming elections.

You will consider what the implications of its approach might be for others, including the UK.

This class will include a practical exercise exploring how developing countries are responding and on what they would be pushing the EU or the UK.

There will be ample opportunity, finally, to ask questions, be it about climate issues, diplomacy or working in the EU

Open to UCL students.

About Daniel Bradley

Dr Daniel Bradley has been a UK Government adviser and diplomat on international climate, environment and development issues for DFID, FCO and FCDO since 2003, with experience in Africa, Asia, South America and Europe.

Before his current assignment leading the UK’s engagement with the EU on climate and environment in Brussels (since 2022), Dan spent nine years in New Delhi – including six years leading the UK’s collaboration with India on energy and climate change on the path to COP26 in Glasgow.  He set up the Minister-level India/UK Energy for Growth Dialogue, and led policy and programme delivery on clean energy transition, electric mobility, energy efficiency and green finance.

A champion of south-south collaboration, Dan is credited with innovating new models of development cooperation for DFID including Brazil-Africa initiatives on agriculture and food security, and India-Africa-South Asia initiatives on affordable innovation. Before his six year posting in Brazil, Dan led development of new DFID policy on agriculture and on land; led agriculture and natural resource engagement with the World Bank, OECD and FAO; engaged in UNCCD negotiations; and provided policy outreach to UK programmes in Africa and Asia.

In the ten years prior to taking up government roles, Dr Bradley carried out path-breaking research into climate and livelihood adaptation, based on field immersion in agro-pastoral communities in Sahelian Senegal; championed the use of participatory methods for training VSO volunteers; and delivered international development consultancy assignments.  He holds a PhD in Livelihood Adaptation and a first class BSC in Geography from the University of Leeds, UK.
