Description

Confused about Brexit and its process? Wonder what the UK Parliament and the European Parliament can and cannot do on the final deal? If so, this is your chance to 'Ask the Experts'.

Expert staff from the House of Commons, the European Parliament and UCL are coming together to discuss the votes in the House of Commons and the European Parliament on the UK Withdrawal Agreement and the declaration on the future relationship between the UK and EU. Join us for an evening of dialogue, gain an insight into the process of Brexit and the parliamentary procedures which will be in play, and understand the role of the UK Parliament and the European Parliament in shaping the endgame of the negotiations.

Speakers

House of Commons:

  • Martyn Atkins, House of Commons Clerk
  • Claire Cozens, House of Commons Clerk
  • Professor Gavin Phillipson, Parliamentary Academic Fellow, House of Commons Library

European Parliament:

  • Mark English, Communications Manager, European Parliament Research Service
  • Carmen-Cristina Cirlig, Brexit Policy Analyst, European Parliament Research Service

The evening will be chaired by Professor Piet Eeckhout, Dean of UCL Laws and Academic Director of the UCL European Institute. After short presentations from our experts, there will be an interactive discussion on the role of Parliaments in the final months of the Brexit negotiations between the audience and the panel.

This is part of the UCL Brexit series 'Ask the Experts'. It is organised by the UCL European Institute and UCL Public Policy.
