Revisiting Ivan Fedorov's legacy in early modern Europe

A conference that will celebrate the 450th anniversary of Ivan Fedorov's edition of the Acts and Epistles (Apostol) and the 440th anniversary of his publication of the ABC (Azbuka) in 2014.

Published in Moscow on 1 (11) March 1564, Fedorov's Apostol is the earliest precisely dated book printed in Russia. Fedorov also published the ABC, the earliest printed East Slavic text book in Cyrillic, in Lviv in 1574. The British Library holds a copy of the Acts and Epistles (Apostol) and one of only two known copies of ABC.

The conference will focus on Ivan Fedorov's legacy, early printing and patronage in Eastern Europe, and cross-cultural contacts in early printing. Talks are in English and Russian. English abstracts of all talks will be provided.
