The NHS cancer screening programmes are increasingly taking an 'informed choice ' approach to communication, encouraging the public to evaluate information about the harms and benefits of screening and decide whether or not to attend. The aim of this project is to gain a better understanding of people's decision-making about cancer screening, with a particular focus on the impact of information about overdiagnosis in the breast screening programme. We are also examining the association between engagement with screening information and decision-making style, as well as demographic and behavioural characteristics, such as socioeconomic status and previous screening uptake.
