Spotlight: Ben Webb

Ben Webb, Institute Deputy Manager and Human Resources Lead What attracted you to your current role at IEHC?Without making this sound like a job application, I was attracted to join UCL IEHC because I felt it was a great and rare opportunity to combine my previous experience of HR and administrative management at UCL.

Ben Webb Also, I was attracted by the Institute, as I enjoy working within such a diverse academic environment like IEHC, and because I came from a Q-Step department, I had heard so many great things about IEHC. 

What do you like about your role and why?

I like two main things about my role.

1. The diversity of my role is brilliant and no two days are the same.

2. The team, I have really enjoyed working with my team, they have an absolute diverse and wealth of knowledge, so as a new member of staff I am so grateful for their ongoing support.  

What do you hope to learn in your current job?

I would like to personally improve how I can best support, build, manage and grow the multi sited core team and network that is focussed on providing high quality services and establish and build great partnerships with the IEHC staff group.

Have you worked anywhere else in UCL?

The short answer is yes! The long answer is I have worked at UCL for a number of years, I started off as the HR and Finance administrator at the Cancer Institute, then I moved to Political Science where I was the Constitution Unit Manager and later Acting Departmental Manager. Prior to joining IEHC, I was on a year's secondment in UCL HR within the Policy team.

What did you do before you joined UCL?

Directly before I joined UCL many years ago, I was traveling around South East Asia and the USA. But before that I worked at Lloyds TSB Group IT in Project Management Support.

Tell us something surprising about yourself

In the last two years, I have been learning how to lindy hop and my class recently placed 1st at a competition!!

North London, born and bred!
