Vulnerability of Urban Infrastructure Systems to Earthquake Ground Shaking and Co-seismic Geotechnical Hazards
My EngD project seeks to develop a novel, robust, unified framework for assessing the seismic performance of the telecommunication network to the combined effects of earthquake ground shaking and its induced co-seismic geotechnical hazards. The project will not only look at these cascading hazards but will also take into account the impact of infrastructure interdependence across various systems and how these changes/affects the infrastructure’s ability to provide its services. These problems will be looked at with increasingly complex models (and results compared between models) using as case studies the 2016 Kaikoura earthquake and 2010-2011 Christchurch earthquake sequence, New Zealand.
