Mian graduated from the University of Nottingham and pursued an MSc degree at UCL on Earthquake Engineering with Disaster Management. He has developed a great interest in mitigating natural disasters here at UCL. He worked for a year as a structural engineer after graduating from UCL, and he divided to return to UCL for his PhD in the field of geotechnics.
Mian is now focusing on the numerical simulation of the landslides based on the material point method (MPM). This research aims to derive an efficient MPM code with advanced soil constitutive models to accurately simulate the post-failure of slope due to rainfall or seismic action.
