José is a civil engineer graduated from Universidad Adólfo Ibáñez in Chile (2017). He obtained his MSc in Civil Engineering from the same university in 2020, evaluating the effect of kaolin on the compressive strength and volumetric instability of adobe block matrices. José worked as a lecturer in material science during 2019 and 2020. He also worked as the lab manager of the civil engineering laboratory of the Universidad Adólfo Ibáñez from 2017 to 2020, where he aided in several research projects related to earth-based materials, evaluating the effect of different fibres in their mechanical and fracture properties.
José joined EPICentre in May 2022 and is currently doing his PhD at UCL focused on a mechanical and physical characterisation of earth-based construction materials, under the supervision of Dr Susana López Queról and Dr Beatrice Baudet. The aim of his research is the development of a constitutive model that predicts the behaviour of adobe blocks reinforced with straw under compressive and shear stress.
