New mandatory training helps you recognise and manage conflicts of interest: complete it by 31 July

20 April 2021

Mandatory online training is available to help all staff and doctoral students manage conflicts of interest at UCL.

UCL's new online disclosure-of-conflicts training will help you recognise, disclose and manage conflicts of interest. You must complete it before 31 July 2021.

Why it’s important

It’s likely that you’ll find yourself encountering a conflict of interest at some stage in your career, whatever your role. This is often through circumstances entirely beyond your control or which could not be foreseen. What’s important is knowing how to recognise, disclose and manage a potential conflict appropriately. This will help prevent damage to your reputation or to UCL as an institution.

How long it takes and how to access it

The online disclosure-of-conflicts training should take around 20 to 30 minutes (depending on how many units you need to do, based on your role). It’s accessed through the UCL MyLearning portal.

Who must complete the training and disclose conflicts of interest on the new system?

All staff and doctoral students must complete this mandatory training before the 31 July 2021.

All staff and doctoral students must also disclose any actual, potential or perceived conflicts of interest through the new ‘UCL Manage Conflicts and Disclose Interests’ system.

Additionally, staff at grade 10 and over, as well as other senior staff listed in the policy, are required to complete an annual declaration of interest. (This is a change from the previous policy where staff at grade 6 and above were required to complete this annual declaration.)

The system can be accessed via www.ucl.ac.uk/myhr

Accessible versions of training

Fully accessible versions of the training are available in audio and Word format.

These are for anyone who might find it difficult to use the online interactive version.
