A careers event at UCL Engineering

Who we are

We are the Engineering Careers Team, part of UCL Careers, providing a dedicated service to support you throughout your degree as well as for the first three years after graduation.

Things you may want to think about during your time at UCL include trying out what it is like to work in different companies, through work experience and internships, and putting together your CV.

What we do

We offer one-to-one coaching and guidance throughout your time at UCL. We can work with you in a number of ways, including:

  • How to research different jobs, industries and further study opportunities
  • Supporting you as you weigh up options, helping you come to decisions
  • Reviewing your CVs, cover letters and applications
  • Helping you prepare for interviews

Appointments are confidential and impartial.

We work with you in departments and across the Faculty, on areas such as Networking and Internships, to help you prepare for engaging with employers and develop your key skills.

We also work with a range of employers to deliver a variety of events throughout the academic year and work to ensure that your event experience matches current market and industry trends. Some examples of the sessions we run with employers include:

  • Employer presentations and panel discussions – a chance to ask questions and understand different people’s experience
  • Industry insight sessions – an in depth look into a particular sector
  • Employer-led skills sessions
  • Employer led CV checking, mock interviews and assessment centres
  • Site visits

You are able to access events organised by UCL Careers as well. You can register for a myUCLCareers account when you start to access all our services.

When it comes to looking for work experience, Engineering students have exclusive access to our shortlisting service, UCL Talent Bank Engineering which connects UCL Engineering students with a broad range of employers.

Work Experience Recognition Scheme

As a Faculty of Engineering student you are strongly encouraged to obtain some form of work experience during your degree. If you have completed 6 weeks of work experience in any sector you have the unique opportunity to get this recognised on your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) and gain some expert careers coaching at the same time. We will help you capitalise on your experience for your future job applications. Please email careers.engineering@ucl.ac.uk for further questions.

How you can get involved

You will be able to keep up to date with upcoming careers activities and opportunities with our weekly student newsletter and UCL’s online learning platform Moodle. Make sure you don’t miss out on important events like the annual UCL Engineering, Life and Health Sciences, and IT and Technology Fairs, held in October each year and offering you exclusive access a wide range of employers.

Details of events can also be found on our dedicated Twitter account. You can also check out our Engineering Graduate Case Studies, which may give you inspiration for your time after UCL.
