Nikolas Frangoulis

Background

My name is Nikolas Frangoulis and I am from Nicosia Cyprus. I came to UCL back in 2015 to study chemical engineering and after completing the MEng course I was fascinated with renewable energy and more specifically hydrogen fuel cells. There came an opportunity to do intership work for Bramble Energy for 1 year  before starting my PhD in the EIL under the supervision of Prof. Dan Brett and Dr. Rhodri Jervis in conjuction with Bramble Energy.

Research

My research is focused on the development of a fast and efficient manufacturing method for high performing and durable PEMFC's for commercial applications. My main interest is CCM (catalyst coated membranes) where methods such as direct spraying and doctor blade coating are compared together with different ink formulations and additives. Characterisation and analysis of the results is done using methods such as electrochemical testing, SEM and rheology measurements.
