EIL work featured on Chemical Communications front cover
11 December 2014
Researchers from the EIL along with collaborators from Manchester, Cambridge and the Diamond Light Source have recently demonstrated full 3D quantification of Li-dendrites using a novel X-ray tomography technique.
The formation of dendrites is a key safety issue for a range of lithium batteries however as Li is the least dense metal it has historically been challenging to image using X-rays. The work published in Chemical Communications describes the application of phase contrast imaging to characterise these dendrite geometries and is featured on the journal front cover.
