Stephen Machin appointed member of the new Tuition Fees Commission

Professor Stephen Machin, UCL Economics, has been appointed member of the new Tuition Fees Commission which is to be chaired by Will Hutton. The commission will analyze the impact of the new higher undergraduate university fees and, in particular, how the system affects students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Professor Machin is already a member of the Low Pay Commission, the body that makes recommendations to the government about the national minimum wage.
