Our research is highly collaborative and most, if not all, of our current projects attract interaction with outside partners in UCL, other universities in the UK and around the globe.
The Institute has an underpinning emphasis on the transfer of its specialist knowledge and expertise to non-academic research user groups. Some examples of these include:
- Providing advice to health policy makers e.g. the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence;
- Productive working relationships with commercial organisations (see below) to deliver collaborative or commissioned research;
- Industrial partnership for aspects of the Institute’s CPD activities;
- Engaging with patients via patient and public involvement groups and patient-support groups.
Our grant success is derived from several sponsors - such as ERC, NIHR, EPSRC - which showcases the wide range of our research activities in basic, translational and dental research.
Non-commercial partners
Research is strengthened by the Institute’s continued strategic alliance with the NHS, particularly University College London Hospitals NHS Trust (UCLH), the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre and our inclusion within the UCL Partners’ Academic Health Science Centre.
The recent Rand citation analysis ranked us as the number one partner NHS organisation.
Commercial partners
Our reputation is continually growing amongst industrial collaborators. We have long-standing collaborations through an ever-growing portfolio of projects, with SMEs and large multinational companies alike.
We conduct industry-sponsored and other clinical trials in our Eastman Clinical Investigation Centre (ECIC) and engage with elite athletes via our Centre for Oral Health in Sport.
