The Rock Room

Location: Kathleen Lonsdale Building, OG1
Collections ManagerProf John Brodholt

The Rock Room is mainly used as a high quality interaction space, e.g. a staff common room, event room.  It houses some of our Geology Collections.

Our comprehensive Geology Collections have been built up over the last one hundred and fifty years. They comprise teaching materials, a reference collection of rocks, minerals and fossils, staff research material, and special collections. The Collections are used extensively in our teaching and have been recognised as a fully accredited museum by the UK Museums, Libraries and Archives Council. The collections are also used by other UCL departments, currently including Archaeology, GEE, and Slade, attract numerous visits from external researchers, and have been used extensively in outreach activities. For examples, the collections are open annually for the Festival of Geology, a public event run in part by staff in Earth Sciences and attracting around 2000 visitors.

Rhe Rock Room is currently closed to the Public.
