London buses to resume front door boarding as TfL introduce new safety measures

TfL has now introduced a raft of new measures aimed at minimising the COVID-19 risk to drivers.

Analysis from University College London has suggested that safety and hygiene improvements made by TfL have made it possible for front-door boarding to resume, by substantially reducing the risk to drivers of contracting coronavirus from customers.

Professor Nick Tyler, working with Dr Liora Maki-Epshtein, Professor Thorsten Stoesser and Dr Lena Ciric, from UCL’s Centre for Transport Studies, with support from UCL Consultants, carried out this piece of work pro bono for TfL.   The number of COVID-19 cases in London has steadily declined since the peak earlier in the year.
