Featuring the CAU: Partners in grime
27 April 2023
The CAU Project Manager describes how a UCL & Local Government Association programme led to a council and researcher building a climate change tool for England's waste sector.

The Net Zero Innovation Programme brings together local authorities, universities and other stakeholders to address climate challenges at the local level, and seek routes to achieve council’s net zero.
Run by the UCL Climate Action Unit, with support from UCL Public Policy and in partnership with the Local Government Association, the programme has had so far supported more than 30 partnerships to deliver a locally-appropriate climate action project in England.
One particular partnership created a tool to measure and bring down emissions associated with the waste sector which is now being used by more than 60 councils across the country.
This article, written by the programme's Project Manager, explains what climate challenge the Cambridgeshire duo faced, how they tackled it, the results, and the top tips learned that other council & academic partnerships can benefit from.
