Is this event for me?

This workshop is for journalists who are communicating about climate change as part of their day-to-day work – you do not need to specifically be a ‘climate correspondent’.  We are especially keen to work with individuals interested in the different narratives used in the coverage of climate change.

This event will be of most benefit for journalists early in their career, though more experienced journalists are also welcome to join.

Event summary

Journalists are invited to join a one-off workshop exploring the role climate metrics could play in the narratives the public encounter every day.

This workshop will be delivered by the UCL Climate Action Unit. We’ll provide a behind-the-scenes look at how metrics are created: from the data that lies behind them, to the designers who make them visual, to the comms experts who shape their descriptions.

We’ll share what we’ve learned works (and what doesn’t) about existing climate change metrics, and share our results from two years of trying to build better climate metrics – metrics that speak to people’s everyday experience of climate change in the here and now.

Please note: this workshop will be followed by a drinks reception for a range of people who’ve been involved with the development of these metrics. We’d very much like you to stay for this after the workshop ends (17:00 onwards).

Attendee limits

Due to the capacity of the room and the type of interactive workshop we like to run, there are a limited number of spaces for this workshop.

If you would like to participate, please follow the link to register your interest.  We will send an email to confirm your place in this workshop as soon as we are able to do so.
