1. ECHILD User Guide
The ECHILD Database spans nearly three decades and includes linked education, social care and health records for pupils in England. It was created for the ECHILD project, but shortly other researchers will be able to apply to access the ECHILD Database through the Office for National Statistics Secure Research Service. Download the user guide for the ECHILD database here:

3. Accessing the ECHILD Research Database
To request access to use the ECHILD database researchers should contact the ECHILD team at ich.echild@ucl.ac.uk. The ECHILD team will be happy to discuss your research project and initially determine if the proposal fits within ECHILD’s specific research priorities.
Following this, researchers must conduct an ethics assessment and complete an ONS Research Accreditation Panel (RAP) application form. These are subsequently reviewed by UCL and RAP.
Once approved, access is granted via the ONS SRS, which means all researchers need to be an ONS Accredited Researcher and use a safe setting to access data.
Find out more about this study’s research, how we collect, manage and use data and what to do if you (or your child) do not wish for your data to be included in research studies:
The UCL research team will not be able to identify you and cannot remove your records from the study directly at your request. You have the right to tell NHS Digital if you do not want the information you provide to the NHS to be used beyond the purpose of providing healthcare. This is known as a ‘patient objection.' Please visit NHS Digital’s website for further details: http://content.digital.nhs.uk/yourinfo. Your choice will not affect the health care or the educational resources you receive.
