Prof Junwang Tang Highly Commended in IChemE Oil and Gas Award Catergory

22 October 2021

Prof Junwang Tang Highly Commended in the Oil and Gas Award category at the IChemE Global Awards 2021.

Congratulations to Prof Junwang Tang on being Highly Commended in the Oil and Gas Award category at the IChemE Global Awards 2021 for his research on Low Carbon Fuel (LOCAL).

The project of Low Carbon Fuel (LOCAL) targets to convert methane/biogas/shale gas to value-added chemicals and fuels by either solar energy or artificial light sources. Prof. Tang has for the first time successfully developed a photocatalytic technology in a flow reactor, which can directly produce liquid fuels (methanol or ethanol) and high-value chemicals using methane as a feedstock by a rather economic and safe approach operated under ambient conditions, thus bringing about substantial benefit to environment and wellbeing as well as making our society more sustainable.

Prof Junwang Tang was also named a Research Project Finalist for his project on CO2 to Liquid Fuels and is a joint entry winner for the 2021 IChemE Innovative Product Global Award. This was a joint venture between Zhejiang Hymater New Materails, Co. Ltd, Ningbo University, China and Prof Junwang Tang (UCL Chemical Engineering). The Innovative Product Award sponsored by The Chemical Engineer recognises the best product originating from the chemical and process industries to be manufactured commercially in the last 3 years.
