Zhejiang Hymater New Materails, Co. Ltd, Ningbo University, China and UCL win 2021 IChemE Innovative Product Award

The project of Mass Production of Membrane by Microwave (3M) has just been awarded the Innovative Product Award at the IChemE Global Awards 2021 after competition with global giant companies including Dow, Johnson Matthey and Saudi Aramco. This is a joint venture between Zhejiang Hymater New Materails, Co. Ltd, Ningbo University, China and Prof Junwang Tang (UCL Chemical Engineering). The project dedicated to providing an innovative solution to recycle the organic solvents used in the chemical industry so as to make these chemical processes sustainable, thus contributing to a circular economy. This international collaboration led to develop a continuous microwave synthesis system and an automatic rapid detection system, which have been successfully used to engineer a series of modular products composed of high-performance molecular sieve membranes. Such commercial products have been validated by industrial partners including COFCO Bio-Chemical and Shanxi Xinghua Energy Group.
