Dr. Alberto Alvarez Fernandez has been recently awarded with the Young Researcher Award at the 2021 Spring Meeting of the European Material Research Society (EMRS), for his work in the development of a multimodal structural characterization platform for mesoporous thin film architectures.

“I am truly honoured to receive the EMRS Young Investigator Award”, Alberto said “This award not only recognizes our hard work in the Adaptive and Responsive Nanomaterials group but also provides me with a strong motivation for pursuing new challenges and develop my scientific career further.”
“I am very grateful to all those who have supported my work during these years, and to the EMRS for promoting young scientist careers like mine” Alberto added.
His supervisor, Dr Stefan Guldin, Associate Professor at UCL Chemical Engineering commented “I am delighted to see Alberto being recognised for his excellent research with this prestigious award. We can be proud to have such talent in the department.”

Dr Alberto Alvarez Fernandez joined the Department of Chemical Engineering at UCL in November 2018 as a postdoctoral researcher on an EPSRC project titled “Block copolymer-enabled mesopore sensing”. He obtained his PhD in the University of Bordeaux as part of a LabEx AMADEus collaborative project between the LCPO (Guillaume Fleury) and the CRPP (Virginie Ponsinet), where he focused on the development of plasmonic nanostructured surfaces using block copolymers. Alberto is originally from Asturias and holds a MSc degree in Chemistry from the University of Oviedo.
