We welcome applications for the scholarship from UK/EU students who have or are expected to obtain a First Class Honours degree from a UK MEng level programme or its overseas equivalent (e.g. a 4 year undergraduate degree) in a relevant discipline, preferably in Chemical Engineering.

The scholarship will enable an outstanding student in financial need to fulfil their potential, and will fully fund up to 4 years of PhD study. The Scholarship has been made possible through the generosity of a UCL Chemical Engineering alumnus, M Mansour Esreb (MEng Chemical Engineering 2005).

The Department of Chemical Engineering at UCL, the oldest in the UK, is internationally recognised for its world-leading research and education, with access to state-of-the-art laboratories and outstanding support staff. We prepare our students to play an active role in solving our most pressing challenges, in the context of both industrial strategy and sustainable development goals. We are especially grateful when one of our own successful alumni, Mr M Mansour Esreb, decides to give back to the Department, and support a deserving student to conduct PhD research with us, with a full scholarship. That helps us to stay true to the founding ethos of UCL to be open to all, based on merit only, and conduct top-level research.” Professor Marc-Olivier Coppens, Ramsay Memorial Professor and Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering

This scholarship has been gifted to UCL as part of the university’s largest ever philanthropic and engagement Campaign, It’s All Academic. With a financial target of £600 million, philanthropy lies at the heart of the Campaign, with support enabling the best and brightest minds to pursue academic excellence at every level. Scholarships are essential in aiding gifted individuals to achieve success throughout the course of their studies and beyond. To find out more about the Campaign visit: www.ucl.ac.uk/campaign

The Marwan Esreb Scholarship is a direct testament to the benefits of philanthropic support and will play a vital role in helping the UCL Department of Chemical Engineering to develop the next generation of talented researchers.
