"Cerebellar contributions to the instrumental control of behaviour"
Abstract: The cerebellum is well-known for its contribution to the control of movement and is well known for its ability to store representations that contribute to the execution skilled movement. Its role in simple forms of motor learning (classically conditioned reflexes) is particularly well-understood through the study of cerebellar responses to conditioned stimuli. However, large areas of the cerebellar cortex are thought to be interconnected with areas of the prefrontal cortex and so may play a role in the execution of skilled cognitive operations. In this talk I will discuss a set of neuroimaging studies that explore the connectivity of the cortico-cerebellar system, and it's activation by instrumentally acquired rules that govern actions.
