Eligibility, Assessment and Criteria
It is important to understand the eligibility and criteria and how research proposals are assessed based on them.
Eligibility of applicants
The lead applicant must be a member of FBS, with relevant experience in research leadership and publication, whose contract must be in place at least until the end of July 2024. The research may be conducted in collaboration with undergraduate, postgraduate taught and/or research graduate students and the support of Early Career Researchers is particularly encouraged. We want to encourage applications from Faculty EDI-related networks and committees and any individuals passionate about advancing equality, diversity, and inclusion. External partnerships are also encouraged.
Assessment of Proposals
A Faculty panel will assess the proposals. To be eligible, all applications should clearly show that the proposed project:
- Has a primary EDI aim that falls within one or more of the above three research categories (advancing EDI at UCL, in academia and/or in science).
- Includes clear research deliverables such as the potential and planning for impactful research publications.
- Has a primary focus in disciplines represented in the Faculty of Brain Sciences (although collaborations with staff from other departments and Faculties are encouraged when they provide valuable expertise, e.g. EDI in neuroAI; computational modelling of EDI interventions; application of qualitative methods research, field methods etc).
- Is led by a PI based at the Faculty of Brain Sciences (FBS).
- Will be completed within the funding period (1st December 2023 to 31st July 2024).
- It is not a project that primarily seeks OA publication fees, workshop or meeting expenses.
- Has appropriate ethical focus and standards for research.
Criteria
Eligible projects will then be rated, ranked and then a selection will be put forward for funding on the following criteria:
- Relevance to EDI (as in the above categories and FBS EDI strategy).
- Clearly described and rigorous methodology.
- Clearly defined and impactful research deliverables.
- Potential of EDI research to influence EDI practice.
- The PI’s research experience, record of leadership and mentorship of ECRs.
- Evidence of PI, or team prior commitment to/interest in EDI.
- Potential for International impact.
- Feasibility of project to achieve its aims.
- Evidence of an innovative approach/methodology use in the field of EDI research.
- Relevance to and representation from the Faculty, with interdisciplinarity and diversity encouraged.
