Research summary
I am interested in why peripheral axons can regenerate following injury but intrinsic CNS axons cannot normally regenerate.
The neuronal cell body response to axotomy, the presence of inhibitory molecules, and the absence of suitable substrates for axonal elongation are key to this problem and are under investigation.
