Research summary
Our group's interest is to understand the physiology and pathophysiology of various medical disorders, particularly but not necessarily limited to the kidney. We are focussed with our clinical and scientific work on the study of rare diseases.
Teaching summary
We are happily involved in teaching of students for a variety of degrees (e.g., BSc, MSc, PhD).
Biography
Prof. Robert Kleta and his lab focus on the study of patients with rare
metabolic and renal disorders. A major interest is the elucidation of genetic
and pathophysiological mechanisms in collaboration with colleagues at the Royal
Free Hospital (RFH) and at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).
Training in Physiology and Paediatrics in Germany (Hamburg, Luebeck,
Freiburg, Muenster, Berlin); board certification in Paediatrics in Germany.
Training in Biochemical Genetics / Metabolic Medicine in the USA (NIH, Bethesda,
Maryland); board certification in Clinical Biochemical Genetics in the USA.
Currently, clinical appointments as Honorary Consultant in Paediatric
Nephrology (GOSH) and Renal Medicine (RFH); academic appointments as Professor for Renal
Medicine (Potter Chair of Nephrology), Honorary Professor of Paediatrics and
Physiology as well as Affiliate Professor of Genetics, all at University
College London.
