The Centre for Integrative Anatomy lives up to its name during its 2023 Annual Meeting

The UCL's Centre for Integrative Anatomy enjoyed its 3rd annual meeting earlier this year, focusing on the work of early career researchers.  The seminar was well-attended (as can be seen from the photo) by people from a variety of disciplines.

We heard about structure and function through a wide range of animal groups, from squids to humans, including reports of research into grasshopper biting, cephalopod feeding, blind cave fish, Mesozoic amphibians, Komodo dragons, snake heads, lizard osteoderms, crocodilian neuroanatomy, avian necks, cranial biomechanics, diet-induced phenotypic change in red squirrels, human craniofacial growth, primate wrist bones, masticatory energetics, anterior dental loading in fossils, and more.

Our speakers included those from UCL, namely, Louise Souquet, Ivan Reyes Perez, Anastasia Maliuk, Paul Burke, Ryan Marek, Ce Liang and Sid Gao, and also from NHM (Marc Jones and Marion Segall), Bonn, Liverpool, Manchester and Hull/York Universities.

The seminar demonstrated the integrated nature of the work carried out by the Centre, drawing as it does on disciplines as diverse as engineering and biology, and its collaborative style, featuring those from a variety of academic and other institutions from different counties and locations.
