Professor Ruth Bellairs (1926-2021)

Ruth Bellairs passed away on 30 December 2021 at the age of 95. Ruth was a legendary figure in chick embryology; she pioneered many new techniques and made many important discoveries.
Ruth joined UCL in 1947, eventually becoming a Professor in 1980 and retiring in 1991. Her former PhD student, Prof Chris Wylie (Emeritus Professor, Division of Developmental Biology, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center) and her former postdoc, Prof Claudio Stern (JZ Young Chair of Anatomy, UCL Cell and Developmental Biology), recently shared their memories of working with Ruth in Development.
