New paper from from Bähler lab published in 'Molecular Systems Biology'

24 April 2020

This study shows that a single‐nucleotide polymorphism in the sole pyruvate kinase gene in Schizosaccharomyces pombe can explain the balance between respiration and fermentation, leading to substantial metabolic, regulatory and physiological adjustments.

The standard lab strain has an unusual, low-activity pyruvate-kinase variant which leads to substantial changes in cell growth, stress resistance, and ageing.
