Abstract: Historically conservation initiatives have been mainly focused on the idea of predictability. Protected Areas, payment for ecosystem services, site-specific projects, and community-based conservation schemes are all based on the presence of clearly boundaries and stable distribution and abundance of natural resources. However, in many places, people and nature are constantly varying, with sometimes unpredictable dynamics. In the last few years, we have been studying these places and how conservation could better approach these challenges.
