Catherine Walker

Position:PhD researcher
Overview:

Catherine received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley. She worked in scientific and medical publishing before continuing into the M.Sc. programme at UCL in the Genetics of Human Disease in 2010. Her work included a pilot project on the efficacy of genetic testing for the FTO gene in an overweight and obese sample. In the MACE lab, Catherine is investigating diet and nutrition in Hunter Gatherer groups and modern human groups.

Project:To investigate the consequences of human adaptation through studying the mismatch between ancient and modern diets, and the role of natural selection acting on the genes within these metabolic pathways.
