Duties and Responsibilities
The UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources (ISR) is seeking a Policy Adviser to drive policy impact and lead our engagement with government departments, public sector organisations, and policy professionals in the private and third sectors.
The post holder will work alongside the ISR Director and research theme leads to design and build a suite of programmes and activities to deliver the ISR’s policy ambitions.
ISR delivers world-leading research, teaching and engagement in the sustainable use of global resources. Our mission is to generate knowledge in the globally sustainable use of natural resources and train the future leaders in the field.
We promote excellence, rigour and impartiality in our activities, address intellectually challenging problems with creativity and innovation, and make a difference to society through the results our work.
Key Requirements
The ideal candidate for the post will have extensive experience of working in or with the policy community. They will also have an understanding of the needs of policy makers in government and other organisations, particularly related to national and global efforts to reach net-zero greenhouse gases, the implications for wider economies, and for resources such as land, water and food.
The successful candidate should be both proactive and collaborative, have excellent analytical skills in both research and policy, designing and managing partner networks, designing and delivering policy advice, strong and engaging presentation and communication skills, and experience and success in partnership building.
The position requires a post holder who can network effectively with a wide range of people, often at senior levels. The successful candidate will also work closely with ISR colleagues, and will join a growing network of policy professionals within UCL.
Since this is a new position for ISR, a review of activities and impacts will be carried out after the first two years.
