Study

We offer a range of programmes for students looking to develop their expertise the area of sustainable use of natural resources.

We are at a critical juncture. To meet net-zero targets wholesale change is needed in the way we consume and use resources. For global change policy-makers, business and communities need to be engaged and we need sustainability leaders to drive it forward.

UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources generates knowledge in the globally sustainable use of natural resources. Our Master’s and PhD programmes equip graduates with the tools to become a leader in energy and sustainability related industry, academia and policy making. 

Undergraduate

Sustainable Built Environments, Energy and Resources BSc and MEng

New for the 2023/24 academic year, this BSc and MEng programme gives students the skills needed to help design and create a more sustainable future. This new undergraduate programme combines our expertise with the expertise of our sustainability-focussed sister Institutes in the Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources.

Sustainable Resources: Economics, Policy and Transitions MSc

This degree equips students with the skills and knowledge to become leaders in a field that is increasingly critical to business, policymakers and civil society at the global and local levels. You will benefit from a truly interdisciplinary approach to the economics, policies and strategies of sustainable resources and first-hand experience from leading experts in the areas of the circular economy, resource efficiency and sustainable resource management.

Economics and Policy of Energy and the Environment MSc

This MSc equips its students to understand the essential connections between energy, the environment, the economy and society, and how to research these, thereby enabling them to become sustainability leaders and entrepreneurs in business, consultancy, policy-making and academia.

Business and Sustainability MSc

Becoming environmentally, socially and economically sustainable is an imperative for businesses of all shapes and sizes. UCL’s Business and Sustainability MSc explores how businesses can turn sustainability challenges into new opportunities and avenues for growth. You will participate in research-led, applied teaching on sustainability science, policy and business practice, empowering you to be sustainability leaders making informed decisions and taking responsible actions for people, planet and profit, now and in the future.

Sustainable Resources MPhil/PhD

The cross-disciplinary UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources conducts research, teaching and enterprise work on the sustainable use of natural resources, with a focus on the Sustainable Development Goals. Our strong links to industry, policymakers and other academic institutions provide an excellent foundation for PhD study.
