Fernando Fernandez-Monge

Fernando Fernandez-Monge is a PhD candidate at the Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose (IIPP)

Fernando Fernandez-Monge is a Senior Associate with the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative and a Ph.D. candidate at IIPP. The Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative is a joint program of Harvard Business School and Harvard Kennedy School, funded by and executed in collaboration with Bloomberg Philanthropies. Fernando also teaches urban governance and innovation at the Harvard Extension School and the IE School of Global and Public Affairs in Madrid. He holds an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School.
 
His Ph.D. research studies the conceptual, political, and capacity underpinnings of alternative data governance models at the city level, with a particular focus on the case of Barcelona.
 
He has written several teaching cases, book chapters and academic and policy papers on public innovation, data governance, urban governance, and city leadership and management. His academic research has been published in Perspectives on Public Management and Governance and the International Migration Review, and his work has been published or featured in Apolitical, Governing, World Economic Forum, El Pais, and Agenda Publica, among others.
