Professor John Tomaney and Dr Lucy Natarajan

Sacriston - A Biography of a Durham Village

15 March 2022

This project is concerned with deepening our understanding of the role of community infrastructure in ‘left-behind places’. It builds on previous work funded by EPSRC, through the iBUILD programme and Impact Acceleration Grant on ‘Social infrastructures for local development’, and UCL Grand Challenges which has focused on County Durham. In particular, the current project is concerned with how social infrastructure is valued in local communities. It is designed to inform approaches to the co-production of social infrastructure with a particular focus on the implications for planning the built environment. Potential applicants will have a knowledge of this field and experience/interest in the use of qualitative methods for co-production of research and in interest in ‘left-behind places’. This project is concerned with deepening our understanding of the role of community infrastructure in ‘left-behind places’.
