Educating about Sustainable Cities

The BSP's Prof Yvonne Rydin, Dr Susan Moore and PhD student Brian Garcia have published an article in the journal AREA, where they make pedagogic recommendations for teaching students about sustainable cities.

They point specifically to the culture of learning in Higher Education where the emphasis is on 'best practice' and highlight "an important tension between, on the one hand, the desire to teach skills and knowledge that is mobile and able to travel and, on the other, the realisation that implementing sustainability can only occur in specific sites and will inevitably be shaped by local features."

Rydin et. al. were invited to to submit a blog post to AREA in order to publicise their paper entitled "Sustainable City Education: the pedagogical challenge of mobile knowledge and situated learning'.
