What happens when ideas in urban renewal and urban governance developed in Europe are transferred to China? Do they have an impact on local administrative arrangements and inspire policy change? And how do local administrations concretely use this knowledge? In this talk, Giulia Romano, Author of the book 'Changing Urban Renewal Policies in China - Policy Transfer and Policy Learning Under Multiple Hierarchies' (Palgrave 2020), illustrates the results of her research, carried out in the city of Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province.
Based on a longitudinal analysis of the middle to long-term impacts of a project of international cooperation, she delivers some insights about policy transfer and policy learning in the field of urban renewal, focusing on the perspective of local administration in China.
