The Bartlett's Faculty Office has been awarded the Green Impact Silver Award at UCL's annual Sustainability Awards Ceremony for continued efforts in making its work environment greener.

In addition, the Bartlett Faculty received a ‘Special Award for Outstanding Sustainability Plan’ for initiatives including the setting up of a Net Zero Advisory Group. This award highlights a clear decision by the Faculty to focus on UCL’s path to net zero whilst also drawing on the research, teaching and wider experience of the Bartlett community.

Discussing the awards and The Bartlett's commitment to net-zero, Nick Hughes, Bartlett Faculty Lead for Climate Action, said:

“Congratulations to everyone who has got involved with The Bartlett's Green Impact agenda, and whose commitment is rightfully recognised with these awards.

We decided to set our own Faculty-level target to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 in order to commit us to playing our role fully, and to take the actions that we can take in line with the broader UCL strategy. We set up the Net-Zero Advisory Group to discuss and advise on the various strategies for reaching our target, ensuring that we take the whole faculty with us on this journey.

We are working closely with Sustainable UCL and with other services and divisions across UCL, to deliver on our respective targets in a coordinated way."

The Bartlett's Faculty Operations Officer – Sustainability, Leda Parker, added:

"These awards are recognition of the great work the staff at The Bartlett are putting in to achieving net zero. Green Impact is more than just a fantastic scheme to promote awareness and focus minds on reducing our impact though. It also unites us around a cause and is open to all.

Anyone can promote greenness in their own special way, and you don’t need to be a Green Team member to contribute – you can do so in any little way, singly or in groups. We are against a climate countdown and there is no time like the present!"
