Research summary

Tuukka's work on how “creative clashes” shape the business models of entrepreneurs at innovation hubs has recently attracted significant public funding in the form of an ESRC Transformative Research Grant (2016-2017/£250,000). His research has been published in outlets such as The Journal of Social Entrepreneurship, Social Politics and Stanford Social Innovation Review. In future projects, Tuukka looks forward to co-developing new approaches to how global prosperity can be “prototyped” by innovative teams and through various experiments. Prior to joining University College London, Tuukka held research and teaching appointments at several prestigious institutions in the UK and overseas (including Kyoto University, Green Templeton College and the School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies at the University of Oxford, Goldsmiths College and SOAS). At the UCL Institute for Global Prosperity, he actively contributes to various management tasks as the director of the MSc Global Prosperity programme.

In the past, Tuukka has written extensively about youth employment, activation policy and entrepreneurship in the Japanese context, resulting in books such as Japan's Emerging Youth Policy: Getting Young Adults Back to Work (Routledge, 2013) and award-winning journal articles. He maintains a keen interest in how young people can shape our economic culture through democratic acts of social and sustainable entrepreneurship.
