Comparing designed and operational performance to identify causes leading to this discrepancy. Focussing on assumptions, approximations, simplifications, and limitations in building performance simulation, occupant behaviour and calculation methodologies. Investigating these themes involves using uncertainty, sensitivity and calibration techniques to understand in more detail the difference between models and operational consumption data from post occupancy evaluation. The comparison is supported by using visualisation techniques to aid in improved analysis. Finally, understanding the use and functionality of benchmarks could also play also a beneficial role in understanding how comparisons could lead to misconception and loss of credibility in predicted energy consumption.
