Award for MSc Light and Lighting student

19 December 2011

Rachael Nicholls, a student studying the MSc in Light and Lighting at the Bartlett School of Graduate Studies, has been awarded the Electrical Safety Council/Lightmonger's Award.

The award, which recognises the best exterior lighting design project on the Bartlett course, was presented to Nicholls by the Master of the Worshipful Company of Lightmongers, Eddie Taylor, for her submission for lighting the Guildhall headquarters of the City of London Corporation.

The presentation took place at the Lighting Education Trust (LET) Lecture (2nd November 2011), sponsored by Hoare Lea Lighting and the Electrical Safety Council, entitled 'Educating Future Lighting Designers'. The event saw presentations by Kevin Theobald of the IALD, Jeff Shaw, education chairman of the SLL, and Stuart Bulmer from the ILP on the question of training in the lighting industry.

Commenting on her win, Nicholls said: "I'm delighted to have won the award, especially for a project that I enjoyed working on so much.  If only real projects were so simple, with a silent client and no budget."
