We're hiring: Research Associate in Building Performance and Programming

The UCL Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering (UCL IEDE) is a multidisciplinary institute within the Bartlett, with around 55 staff and PhD students. The UCL IEDE pursues a deeper understanding of the interactions between the built environment and health, human wellbeing, productivity, energy use and climate change.

The post will play a critical role in a programme of research, which will provide the tools and analysis to enable key stakeholders to plan and manage the development of the UK school building stock to provide high quality built environments whilst limiting energy demand, carbon emissions and environmental impact. The postholder will play a leading role in the development and maintenance of the online dynamic energy benchmarking platform, develop a range of other energy/environmental models and analytical tools, publish extensively and present research findings to a range of senior government and industry stakeholders.

The post is funded for 12 months in the first instance, further funding to support the post maybe available. Please note that due to available grant funding the appointment will commence at the lower end of the salary scale.

Key Requirements

Postgraduate degree in computer science, engineering, architecture, physics, or related quantitative field, or equivalent by experience. PhD, or near to completion or commensurate research experience in a quantitative field related to the subject area.

A specialism in building performance simulation and programming and experience of working in HPC environment is essential.

Prior domestic and/or non-domestic building energy and environment modelling experience, including the use of Energy Plus, Python and SQL is desirable.
