This research sought to improve understanding of the linkages between the provision of energy use and the achievement of Millennium Development Goals 2 and 3. The findings of the research were tested in workshops with the two research communities, to promote a discussion of energy related problems, their causes and possible community-based solutions. Participants included the mayor, a number of municipal and NGO staff, and local journalists. The DPU worked in collaboration with two local NGOs, the Community Development Training Institute (CDTI) and Women’s Development for Science and Technology Association. Funded by DFID.
