Nicola Dillon

Graduate Teaching Assistant MSc SDP

Nicola is a researcher with a background in design, anthropology and material culture studies.

Her works focuses on the relationships with materials and how engaging across people, materials and design can be a means to understand and challenge socio-cultural issues. She is a PhD candidate at Kingston School of Art, supported by the Crafts Council (UK) and funded by the London Design Doctoral Centre and the Arts Humanities Research Council. The research draws on the concept of material imaginaries to question and analyse the relationships between invisible/visible, subject/object, race/matter and the politics of making, particularly as they relate to diversity politics in the creative industries and African diaspora experiences with the UK.

Nicola has hands-on experience in projects with communities, cultural organisations and local governments in the UK, Portugal and Jamaica.
