DPU's Haim Yacobi receives the Middle East and North Africa Social Policy Network Grant

31 March 2022

Congratulations to the DPU's Prof. Haim Yacobi, Programme Leader of the MSc Health in Urban Development, for receiving the Middle East and North Africa Social Policy Network, Grant “Making the Invisible Visible: Slow Violence, Mental Health and Resilience in Gaza”.

Gaza

This research project is being undertaken in partnership and collaboration with Prof Michelle Pace from Roskilde University, Dr. Yasser Abu Jamel and Dr Ziad Abu Mustafa from the Gaza Community Mental Health Programme, and will examine how slow violence affects Gaza’s young generation in terms of their increasing vulnerability to mental health challenges, and how existing resilience networks could serve as a vehicle for better strategic intervention in mental health.

The research will be based on a pilot supported by the Wellcome Trust and The Bartlett Synergy Grant: Gaza: the spatio-politics of health, death and life, which studied how power, violence and health become entangled in conflict zones and what kind of resilience strategies are developed by individuals and communities.

The project outcomes include an academic article, a blog, Gaza: Cage Politics, Violence and Health, a podcast, #3 Gaza: from ghetto to frontier, and a short documentary, Gaza: Arts of Resilience and Hope in the Midst of Despair which are all open access for the public.
