18 February 2016
We are delighted to announce that our very own Dr Alexandre Apsan Fredianihas won the prestigious Provost's Public Engagement Award for Early Career Engager of the Year (grade 6 or 7).
Dr Alexandre Apsan Frediani is co-course director of MSc Social Development Practice and a lecturer in Community Led Development in the Global South. He is also Director of Communications within the Development Planning Unit.
Alexandre has been instrumental in embedding public engagement within the curriculum followed by his Master’s students. The panel were particularly struck by his determination to ensure that his approach to teaching brought his students into conversation with members of the local community around them in Camden and encouraged them to apply their theoretical learning to real-life problems and contexts. He also impressed the panel with this desire to build synergies between teaching, advocacy and research.
The selection panel applauded the work that Alex undertook to link the Master’s in Social Development Practice curriculum to real world problems faced by a community local to UCL. The panel recognised both his energy and commitment to this work and the mutual learning that students and community partners have gained from the collaboration.
