Updates from the DPU summerLabs, 2013
22 November 2013
The video "Occupation City" presenting the experience of the Rome SummerLab 2013 is now available. The DPU summerLab team would like to express their thanks to all participants who helped make this year's series such a success, and special thanks to Daniele Zacchi and Azzurra Muzzonigro for applying their magic touch in producing the fantastic video below.
2013 has been the third year of the DPU summerLab’s engagement with Rome, exploring issues of contested urbanism in the city in collaboration with the Stalker Laboratorio Arti Civiche (Facoltà di Architettura, Università degli Studi Roma Tre). The most recent edition explored the phenomenon of squat-occupied spaces by both Italians and immigrant communities in the city. In particular it examined the synergies and conflicts in discourses of resistance as adopted by different Urban Social Movements. The goal of the immersive learning and research process provided by the summerLab is to produce a series of potential strategies for a more sustainable transformation and integration of squatter communities in the fabric of the city.
The DPU summerLab 2013 publication is almost ready. This will bring together the different experience from the various geographies in which the summerLabs took place in 2013. These were Medellin (Colombia), Santiago (Chile), Rome (Italy) and London (UK).
