KNOW Dialogues in Urban Equality #11 - Trajectories of sanitation poverty in Dar es Salaam
01 October 2019, 5:30 pm–7:00 pm
115 Galton LT1-19 Torrington Place, LondonLondonWC1E 7HB
In our 11th Dialogues in Urban Equality, we welcome our partners from the Centre for Community Initiatives, Tanzania (CCI) to discuss with KNOW Small Grants Fund awardee, Dr Pascale Hofmann "Trajectories of sanitation in Dar es Salaam".
This dialogue will present findings from collaborative research that interrogates urban sanitation poverty over time and across scales. Evidence from our KNOW research confirms that not all low-income residents in Dar es Salaam do not suffer from the same level of sanitation poverty. Their diverse practices and trajectories are shaped by a complex web of intersecting factors and relations across scales.
Findings reveal socially differentiated (vulner-)abilities among women and men, providing valuable insights into the potentials and limitations found within existing practices. These learnings will be discussed with KNOW Tanzanian city partners to explore the development of more just and integrated sanitation solutions in cities like Dar es Salaam.
